To Make the Difference
A little girl sat at her desk, which had been her desk for three years now, ever since she had carved her name into it. She was in fourth grade which surprised everyone because the only thing she did was go to school, eat lunch, and go to detention. Many people were convinced that she loved detention, though none knew why. Her desk was placed against the wall and so close to the teacher's desk that you might think they were connected.
She was trying to think of a way to fit her middle name in between her first and last name. She decided to carve her initial instead. Those who have ever carved letters into wood should kno
Once upon a time there was an ugly turtle. She had a very low self-esteem so when she asked others how she looked; they told her she was very beautiful. She was pleased but never grew vain. Word spread that there was a turtle more beautiful than the stars themselves in reference to the ugly turtle and turtles came from all over the lands to catch a glimpse of her.
Now, this turtle may have been ugly but she wasn't stupid. Although she thought she was pretty, she knew she wasn't as beautiful as it had been rumored. So, when all the turtle suitors came to woo her, she hid her face up in veils, saying that she would only show her bea
Our people are strong; our elders, wise;
Our mountains are ageless; our water, clear;
Our land has thick forests and open skies,
We live in harmony with our brothers, the deer.
Upon our white brothers,
Much kindness is shown.
They bring back many others,
Their population has grown.
Constantly, they take more land,
We are forced to move on,
We're unsure if our culture will stand,
Or if our ways will be gone.
Many of our people are now lost,
Our white brethren have plagued us with much,
For us it has been too great a cost,
The sting of bullets and sickness from their touch.
A war breaks out over land that was ours,
When all is
When times were hard
And life was grim
Things looked down
Things looked dim
Music soothed the hearts
Calmed the minds
Jazz lifted spirits
Jazz cut the binds
It was a cultural aspect
An expression of pride
For things that were suffered
For things that were cried
When times were hard
And life was grim
Things looked down
Things looked dim
Music soothed the hearts
Calmed the minds
Jazz lifted spirits
Jazz cut the binds
It was a cultural aspect
An expression of pride
